Maskne is the New Acne

Ready or not, fall is coming. This fall is unusual. The CDC recommends that everyone wear a cloth face covering in public to control the spread of COVID-19. This recommendation is important for you and everyone around you. However, some of us experience side effects from keeping our nose and mouth covered for a prolonged period of time. Wearing a mask creates a warm, moist environment for the skin, resulting in a build up of sweat and oil. This build up may lead to rashes, chafing, and even breakouts, also known as maskne.

How do you prevent maskne? Simple precautions such as washing your face regularly, choosing your mask wisely and washing it after every use can help. This is also a good time to exfoliate, using a gentle, exfoliating soap. Routine daily cleansing helps remove the makeup, oil, and surface level dirt that naturally accumulate during the day. However, exfoliating helps buff away dead skin cells, so your skin looks smoother, more radiant and is better able to absorb moisturizer.

To help keep you and your skin healthy, we made Honey & Oats soap. Why honey oatmeal? Oatmeal is not only a delicious breakfast option, but it is surprisingly good for your skin. It is anti-inflammatory, naturally contains saponins (a cleansing agent), it’s very moisturizing and helps to gently remove dead skin cells. Honey is naturally antibacterial, antioxidant and humectant (which means it draws moisture to the skin.) We use locally sourced honey for our products. Our Honey & Oats soap does not contain any added essential oils, so it is gentle for all skin types.

We hope your fall season is clear, brilliant, fruitful, golden, and safe.
