The Seasons Are Changing

Typical summers mean my mom (Susan) and I (Liz) are making soap multiple times, and participating in markets and fairs. This summer, and year, is anything but typical. That doesn’t stop us though from getting together to make soap. We don’t make soap just to sell it. We make it because we love spending the time together.

As July rolls around, we plan on making soap for the fall and winter seasons. As crazy as that sounds, soap needs to cure for a while, and we want to be ready with some fun seasonal soaps.

We prepare our agenda, knowing we probably won’t completely follow it. We grab our warm mugs of coffee, and head downstairs hands full with everything we need hoping to not have to make another trip.

As we begin to make our soaps for the next season we dream of what that season feels like. Living in the midwest means we get to enjoy all four seasons.

To us, autumn brings out our flannels, moccasins, and warm blankets. We enjoy our warm brownies while we watch the leaves change color, and then fall to the ground. The fresh, crisp air with notes of pumpkin and apple is what we try to capture into a bar of soap

Just as we begin to enjoy autumn it bids farewell to white covered branches and smoke from chimneys. We warm up by the fire in our fleece pajamas and a warm piece of pie. The frosty gleam coming from the lake has a unique beauty to it. We watch, cuddled together in excitement as deer quietly trek through the forest in our backyard. The feeling of joy as you lay down to make a snow angel in the fresh fallen snow, brings us inspiration as we create new soap.

As we meet to make soap together, we will laugh, talk and enjoy the simple pleasure of spending time together.

The world is changing as the seasons change. Remember to always find the beauty even during a change.
