Let’s face it, lemons have an image problem. For well over a hundred years, we have been calling defective items “lemons,” but why is this refreshing fruit associated with faulty goods?
What is Lemon?
Lemon is a flowering plant that belongs to the Rutaceae family. Lemon plants are native to Asia and were brought to Europe around 200 A.D. While on long sea voyabes, English sailors would use lemons to protect themselves from scurvy. The peel is actually the most nutrient-dense portion of the lemon.
Essential Oil
Lemon essential oil actually comes from cold-pressing the lemon peel rather than the inner fruit. Lemon oil is a very versatile essential oil, as it can be used for cleaning, as a beauty product, and its powerful antioxidant properties help boost your health. It cleanses toxins from the body and is often used to rejuvenate energy, purify skin, and fight bacteria and fungi. It is often added to soap and other products because of its fresh scent, however, using lemon in your bath and body products may be beneficial to your mental health, physical health, and it will make your skin even and beautiful.
Lemon Benefits
Let’s take a quick look at some of the benefits of lemon for your skin. Lemon essential oil contains a powerful antioxidant called d-limonene. Besides being great for your skin, it is also good for your hair. In addition, it helps prevent an oily scalp.
Like any essential oil, lemon isn’t for everyone and cause skin irritations in some people. Lemon essential oil can cause photosensitivity when used topically, so it’s important to avoid direct sunlight up to 12 hours after using lemon oil on your skin or apply sunscreen.
